I was thinking about the casual, everyday evil that we face, wondering how it so often prevails.

Not sure how much time I can realistically devote to this just now, but my inclination is to strike when my muse tells me.

As an Aspy, I am very familiar with the typical experience of being blamed for everything.  Even now, nearing 70, I find that on a daily basis I am the object of suspicion at home and where I work.  No doubt part of this is simply that for me and most Aspies, our ...

It's amazing that after 2 years away Joeuser.com is still up and running. Granted the send to be a lot less activity than before but it's great to see this site alive. I see it's mostly Stardock articles, which makes sense, the days. I loved being here when there were healthy discussions about politics and current events, the arguments are so intense it was great. Sadly I see little to any political discussions. Well, times change but it's nice to see the site still up. Maybe I...

Imagine applying this to everyday audio/video via something like Google Glass. Imagine refining huge samples such as a novel or a physics compendium.

Maybe we already have enough data, given this methodology, to describe and extract a full blown universal TOE.  If so, why do anything more?  In general, if we know that this is theoretically possible then what incentive remains, of any kind?  Do we have to...

Probably last time I'll have hearing. ..about to start in15 mins....

03/05/2017 I've decided to take the plunge and go positive for a change.  Other people will pick up the negative slack, I'm sure...  With regard to the depressing coverage below, numerous researchers in fields such as neuro-psychology have pointed out that the evidence strongly suggests that empathy is and has been for several decades on the decline.

Anecdotal evidence abounds for this position, although usually other kinds of causes are flagged. And, if my theory ...

Miguel Ferrer, a fine character actor whose most recent role was assistant director Owen Granger on NCIS: Los Angeles, has died at age 61, of throat cancer. He was George Clooney's cousin.

Ferrer, a veteran of a host of TV dramas and movies, began his career in the early 1980s with guest shots on TV series, such as Trapper John M.D. and Miami Vice. In 1990 he scored a signature role as FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield on David Lynch's smash Twin...

If you buy stuff on Amazon...if you haven't, you probably will, sometime, you probably check out buyer reviews...with some it's easy to spot a fake review. Others, not so much.

So, it isn't news (I hope) that sellers like good reviews and there's a group of folks who earn money by 'reviewing' products for pay. Many sites don't do this, allowing only buyers to leave reviews, but there are 'work arounds' such as sending the 'reviewer' sample...

HAPPY NEW YEAR JOE USER!!

I hope the new year fills you with hope.

Resolutions seem so out of date to me, so I pick a word and make it the flag plant for the upcoming year.

There were many words competing for 2017, but this year "faith" won.

Faith is defined as:

1. confidence or trust in a person or thing:faith in another's ability. 2. belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis....
3. belief in God or in the doctrines or teachings of religion:

Adni18...Master skinner Nikos...has a lovely website which (to my great embarrassment) I've never written about.

It here: http://wwa.adni18.com/ and has photography, themes and wallpapers, screenshots and more.

Folks like teddybearcholla, relhom, our departed friend jazzilady, and sed posted there as well as here, and have been featured there, as well. Many of you know submicron's work from devArt and is featured there as well.

So, if you're looking...

On February 20, 1962, Glenn flew the Friendship 7 mission and became the first American to orbit the Earth...

John Herschel Glenn Jr. (July 18, 1921 – December 8, 2016) was an American aviator, engineer, astronaut, and United States Senator from Ohio. He was one of the "Mercury Seven" group of military test pilots selected in 1959 by NASA to become America's first astronauts...

My brother is in ICU on life support, prayers needed...he has respiratory failure, lungs full of fluid, high CO2 and low oxygen levels, very confused, and it seems he's been off his meds for diabetes, etc.

He smokes, eats too much, generally doesn't take care of himself.

They have him at critical status.

I would appreciate any prayers and well wishes.

EDIT: My brother is now gone.  See my last post.

I've written before about creativeLive and getting free lessons using Photoshop and Lightroom.

If are a portrait or landscape photographer, and are looking to go beyond 'the usual', this is one great way.

I always wanted to learn how to paint. I can sketch, and I can use Photoshop (Lightroom, a lot less), so I've tried in various ways to merge photos with painting...watercolors and oil, without going to the expense of buying materials and going to classes, etc.
